Beadlock or knurled bead rims for a stock or mildly tuned street car?

I am considering a set of rear rims for my stock powered M6 Chally. Additional power mods to be added later. I initially was going to get a set of the Billet Specialty 17” x 10 Win Lites but after speaking with them they do not offer that rim with a knurled bead. I see that Weld does offer knurling and may go that route but really dig on the BS’s. I just want to avoid having to buy another set in the event of the tire spinning on the wheel. I believe that on the street bead locks would be expensive overkill. Thoughts please, seems to me knurling would be a happy and cheaper compromise, or can I get away with the Win Lites with no fear of spinning them within the tire? Thanks as always.

I have not run that in decades, so listen to others too, but I see it this way: you don't need them now on the street (you aren't going to put something on the car (at least not in texas) that you cannot spin even stock). However, if you plan on going hog wild in the future and/or hitting the track in a major way and don't want to buy another set of wheels later, might be worth looking in to. I went beadlock right off the rip. Forgestar D5 style With 315/50/17 ET Street R's

Expensive? Depends who you ask. I think 2 rear wheels AND tires I was out...just over 2k thru PK Auto. Absolutely painless experience. Mounted, balanced, coated, with nutz and ready to roll out of the box.

And they don't vibrate. At all. At least thru 160mph.

Not that I've noticed. I've only ran them a couple times but the TPMS read the same both times and they held consistent thru the race day.

They got stored with 18-20psi in them. I'll check it in the spring. LOL.

my street Rs moved about 1 ft on 18 inch bravados last year, then this year with a better 60 ft never moved any further as some others have noticed. next year will have 15 by 10 forgestar beadlocks

Just to let you know I had knurled rims on my stock hellcat with MT street R’s and when traction was good I’d spin the rim every time. So on my redeye WL bead lock 👍 no more problems.

what size tire with this rim? the 15by10 beadlock is 6.37 an with a 30 inch tire I may have to massage the body a bit . 6.60 will be even further inboard.

Perhaps a MT Street Radial in 305 45 17? I don’t know yet. I believe Forgestar offers 2 backspace options. My car is a 2015 so is naturally it’s a standard body car.

the 10 inch wheel I have now has a 6.29 back space an with 305 45 18 I have lots of room, 6.60 would be about 1/4 inch in more. you should be fine with a 305

I wish I could remember the exact details. All I did was call up Paul @ PK Auto. Said I have a 18 charger and i want D5 beadlocks with a 315.

And yes. A 305 would be better suited for you if you do not wish to clearance anything major.

With a 315 you will need to flatten the rib and pin up or remold/shape the liner with a heat gun for sure. Maybe more.

@fubar569 good to know. Thanks. Ive got 11” PK’s 5 spoke replicas on there now with 315 Nitto NT05R’s, but that’s a 20” wheel with no clearance issues. I realize the Nittos run a bit narrow so MT’s in 305 should be ok. Ive also got those Phillips Flares, so if I go outboard a little Ive still got them covered.

FWIW I'm running 11 x 20 305 MT Street SS in the rear and when I put this particular set on we got under the car and, at least on mine, we found there was still plenty of room. Could go 315 with ease. After that, we'd be getting tight. lol, would love to have 345s,



but without work on the wells...

Thanks. In a Charger, right Magnified? I believe you guys have a little more clearance in the wheel well than the Challengers. I believe 305’s would be a bunt for me.

Beadlocks? Are you crazy? I have gone 8.6 no beadlocks, a little slip saves the drive train. All you guys running them have lost their minds, the IRS and A8 need some cushion. Hmmm gone 1.24 60 foot with no bead locks, I do believe it is the 2nd quickest 60 foot of any A8, no nonsense from me

I used them once long ago, but didn't like the whole idea. Never saw any particular damage from them, but did not see any particular benefit other than reduction in slip but that never bothered me that much. I call it personal preference. If it makes you feel better, you see clear faster times with your style of launch, or it stops vibration / balance issues for you, have at it.
