I think Project Farm has a comparison?

Never mind, he hasn't tested 1/2" drive.

I have an 18v brushless Ridgid. Works great and has a lifetime warranty on both the tool and battery.

Milwaukee like guys said but if you’re a weekend mechanic don’t be afraid of the Harbor freight earthquake. I have the 1/2 20v and haven’t had a nut yet it wouldn’t remove. It’s a surprisingly nice tool.

I would recommend the DCF894 if all you are doing is taking off wheels, 330 ft lbs of fastening and 600 ft lbs of breakaway torque. No reason for anything stronger like a hi-torque impact wrench from DEWALT or Milwaukee.

If you have questions on anything DEWALT or power tools in general I can help guide you as I work for DEWALT and have been in the power tool business for well over 10 years.

I already had Craftsman stuff from Lowes so I picked up the impact wrench that goes with it.

Used it a handful of times and it works pretty damn good. Its only 6 months old though.

I have the Milwaukee M18 1400 ft lb unit. Love that damn thing
Same here, brushless one, it’s small, compact, and a f n animal. You can set it to 4 different modes, it’ll get anything loose or break it off but it’s moving it LOL.

Just an FYI Stanley Black & Decker, the company who owns the DEWALT brand, also owns the Craftsman brand. A lot of the same technology from DEWALT goes into those tools.

I use the Milwaukee 18V Fuel, it has 3 adjustments for power/torque and is great...put on 1 for running lugs on, then torque to 111.put on 3 for taking them off, a breeze and extremely fast.

Thumbs up on the 18v stuff. I bought the wrench and two batteries a couple of years ago. Last year, I sadly needed to replace my old friend, a Monkey Ward circular saw that was nearly 50 years young when all the adjustment bolts finally got lost or fell out. Got a “reconditioned” or opened-returned Milwaukee circular saw for like $150 alone last summer! Looks new, acts new and wow, do I love the 18v batteries and the tools they drive. Not stringing extension cords to use a circular saw? Priceless improvement in doing stuff for this old guy!!

Try the 20v. Giant improvement over the tired old 18’s I was using.

For use in wheel removal, are the high torque impacts required, or will mid torque 1/2 inch or even 3/8 inch suffice? I'm not going to be working on bridges or anything like that. I have a Ryobi that would not remove lug nuts on my Challenger HC. They were put on by Discount tire, and I assume they were torqued to a proper 110 ftlbs. I understand that my be a bad assumption.

Mine is actually a mid torque model with 3 settings...rated at 600ftlbs torque for removal max and up to 450ftlbs fastening max. In mode 1, it stops right after nut is contacting wheel, maybe 10-15lbs torque.
