I'm not about to get a hybrid. At least not as long as there's something available that is gas or diesel powered. Even if it means getting another Class 8 tractor.

Aside from the potential fire risks, I'm one of those who push a vehicle (if possible) or pull it with another one rather than having to cold start it if it needs to be moved a few feet Driving a hybrid seems to be a series of cold starts.

If I understand it correctly, when getting to a hill or when passing another car, the engine will kick in to proved the extra power. Well, it's still cold, and suddenly asked to produce all it can, instantly. Next time it fires up it won't be quite as cold, but not correctly warmed up either.

Looks like I'm not the only one who has wondered about this as Amsoil has released an oil specifically for this brutal application.

I agree, however, lots of moving parts and an ICE to maintain. I am used to not changing oil and or having to wind up the motor to get the car to move. I had a conversation with a owner of Porsche EV at the EA charging station. He also had a hellcat Durango. He said that the hellcat Durango was "slow" compared to the Porsche from a dig and he too could not see buying anymore ICE vehicles.

The EA charging station is like the water cooler, many different vehicles pull up and some are friendly. I guy was charging a Harley Davidson EV motorcycle last summer, talk about a cool conversation.

I must be the only one here who has both hellcats and EV's.
We have a hybrid. It's self charging and we really like it.

We have it because the big 3 brands are the same thing for the past 20 or so years.

BTW, the Tundra is built from 85+% of American manufacturered parts and built here. It's the top American only built truck from this country after the Honda truck.

Imagine that?

Our truck is only electric at slow speed or under hard acceleration. Otherwise it's ice. This is a different approach from other hybrids.

Regarding the comment that EV are expensive, a Tesla Plaid which is 1025 HP can be ordered for 86K with a couple of week delivery or some are available to purchase immediately. Is there any ICE vehicle with that kind of HP under 90K?

No sales tax but no free charging with Tesla. It is tempting.

Build quality is far worse then even a Dodge right now. Service sucks and parts availability sucks.

Sounds like a nightmare to me?

IDK, some of the articles state that Tesla have some of the worst depreciating vehicles and some vehicles that retain their value the best.

Never owned a Tesla, but it may be time to investigate, they are getting real inexpensive. A friend has owned Teslas for the past 8 years, the only thing that went wrong was the Model X would sometime just shut down (turn off). It was a 2018, they ended up trading it in on another Model X

And as usual, there's more. This is not only on the internet, but on You Tube, so it must be really, really true.

"Well a massive scandal over Government subsidies and EV efficiency just came out. Don’t know much details other than it has to do with a fake multiplier the Government used to calculate efficiency which in turn provided carbon credit dollars (Tax dollars) to EV makers. Tesla was the biggest beneficiary to the tune of $500 million just in 2023. Without the fake multiplier none of the EV makers including Tesla would be making ANY profit off the sales of EV’s.

The story just came out but this will likely dwarf the VW and Cummins scandals and involves billions of tax dollars being illegally spent to artificially boost EV adoption. When owners of EV’s find out about this they are going to be fuming. This so-called multiplier is probably going away which will expose the fact that EV’s had nowhere near the efficiency advantage they claimed over combustion engines.

So the same government who fines VW and Cummins for cheating is complicit in its own cheating scandal which dwarfs all others. How ironic…"

This is how they are funded. Then they sell the credits to earn even more money.

These cars are like battery tools & phones
Throw them away when the battery starts dying
There would be little to no resale value
There is a reason manufacturers are reluctant to list battery replacement costs

Quote

Lexus just revealed that a replacement for the battery in its electric SUV is $43,476 plus tax and install (installation will be thousands $$$). Thats more then half the price of the car, which retails for $82,500.

Yes, the Dodge was the biggest buyer of the credits to address the hellcat cars.

The numbers show that it was the 5.7 that was the highest cost.

@ButterDaGreat? Is this correct?

8 year / 100K warranty. The majority will trade out before then.

Would make sense. Must've been quite a few more 5.7s sold.

Yes, Tesla and Volkswagon have the cheapest batteries, the battery for the ID.4 is $ 12,500.00 (list) and the Teslas are under 10K (some are refurbished which are obviously cheaper).

To address the cost, Hyundia is building a battery plant is the USA. Right now, the replacement battery cost on the Inoiq5 is $ 42K.

There's a place in florida that rebuilds the batteries for a lot less.

That is what I will do, the technology keeps getting better and better. If the middle east war expands and the price of oil goes thru the roof, I will make money on the trade in value of the EVs. I see the spike in oil coming real soon.

I ll do some research
I m curious how they warranty the battery
Cars in Canada don t get the same warranty as the US

My daughter would wear out that EV battery warming it up before it leaves the yard
Dam kids

Dodge is working on a new Ram Hybrid that may entice buyers
The new EV not so much
