I have tried a well known CAI on my cat. On three different occasions the car averaged slower passed with it.
Factory box for the win at the track on a stock cat.
It did sound great though.

Good info. I’m interested to see the results. I’m not counting out the stock airbox. I mostly want to see if a video I saw on YouTube touting some pretty good rwhp gains with the JLT CAI is accurate or not. It left me quite intrigued. We’ll see!

I going to the dyno this week to see what my ‘21 RE puts out at the rear wheels. I’ll be doing the first couple pulls with my recently installed JLT cold air intake, then we’ll do a couple pulls with the stock intake installed while she’s strapped in to see how they compare. I’ve seen TC is recommended to be off, and to do all pulls in Track Mode. I’m not sure how it would compare, but everything I’ve read across forums speak of 5th gear pulls. Any reason to not hit 6th or 7th (8th) besides mph on the drums? (3.09 rear differential).

I was considering doing the first couple pulls with the stock intake on first, then swap it out for the JLT after cool down, that way I’m not robbing the stock intake of any potential performance after she’s all hot. I figure that would give the JLT a small disadvantage, but I don’t want any inflated numbers showing more than “true” values for the JLT. What say you?

Any other advice from you folks with regard to my very first Dyno?

Excited and looking forward to doing this!
Numbers are in. Not sure how to feel about this. Top photo is with JLT cold air intake, bottom is with stock air intake.

Note: Pulls were all done in 4th, manual, Track mode, ABS fuses removed. I discussed 1:1 in 6th with the technician and he was worried about his dyno topping out at 190mph. Said “we’ll get the numbers we need in 4th”. A83B6639-55B2-426F-AC1E-8CBF3D19B5C4.jpeg

I have no problem with the 4th gear pull. The dyno said it picked up over 20hp lost a little torque and ran leaner. I would like to see what it does at the drag strip making passes going back and forth. If I saw the JLT was faster I would keep it
I will say I'm surprised it picked up that much

It would be interesting to know if there's any actual et gain from either of the CAI's being mentioned.
It at least looks good on paper. :)

The torque numbers are interesting across the pull though. The stocker is making 30 more torque Looks like the stocker is making more power until 6300 rpm
The more I look at it the JLT made good peak numbers but was behind most of the pull

Ya, like I said. I’m looking for more SC sound and if there’s any HP increase that’s just a bonus. I also ordered a sock for it to keep in the car just in case I get caught in the rain.
That's what she said...

Interesting results, shows the stock airbox works well. Perhaps with some time the car will learn the JLT and make more power over the curve along with the boost at peak rpms

Fueling is likely COT.

@Speedy I believe did some real world track testing and went with aftermarket after years of the stock airbox..

I was looking back on his videos and he said the CAI picked up on his previous Challenger. On the Hellcat he ran 9.83 with the stock airbox at the end of 2019 and put the JLT on last year. I do not think he has gone faster with the JLT
@Speedy! can chime in

Its been a minute and I'd have to go back and look but I think the 9.83 may have been with the Legmaker CAI. I did try pulling the filter from the stock airbox and it made zero difference.

Not surprised about removing the filter. I have tested that at the track on different dodge cars, no gains which means no restriction

We did the same thing on our racing Duramax diesels years ago. We actually saw 13-17 HP on the dyno. At the track we saw nothing. Not even a tenth. Funny thing is; we still use them. LOL

I’m of the belief that any dyno pull comparisons of air intakes with the hood open are pretty meaningless.
