Sometimes when I connect the lines it is very hard to push the fittings together to make them engage, like there is pressure in the lines. I wonder if maybe on hot days maybe pressure builds up.

The other day I couldn’t get the line to disconnect from the pump, it came about half way out and it was stuck, wouldn’t go on or off. I had to pull really hard to get it off and I see what looks like a piece of o-ring in the female (photo).

I contacted QJ and they said it’s out of warranty, new fitting is $58 plus shipping! They said it was my fault for not letting all the pressure out of the pump! (BS!) Luckily I found Summit Hydraulics in AZ and ordered a fitting for $20 w/free shipping, and it shipped same day.

I am really disappointed with QJ. I’m thinking maybe I’ll have to loosen the fitting on the line to relieve the pressure if this happens again. Anyone have any better ideas on how to relieve pressure in the lines?

Interesting, never had the problem, but now that I opened my mouth, I'm certain I'm next. I have heard of guys having to order those couplers due to leaking, but not much else. I usually raise and lower mine just a bit 2-3 times before the final drop, maybe that's helping???

Never disconnect at the pump, disconnect at the rail

And when you lower it, hood the button in for a few seconds after it’s all the way down

I second the last comment, about holding the lowering button for a few seconds. I couldn't reconnect my lines a few months ago and watched some videos online. Several mentioned holding the down button. I did this and immediately reconnected my lines. It does appear to make a difference.

I think the pressure in the lines (disconnected) is due to heat. Usually after I lower it, everything disconnects fine. I hang the lines in the attic of the barn and they get warm which might be causing the pressure? Maybe I could find a way to keep them connected to the pump when stored. More of a pain but better than buying new fittings.

That was my solution for this issue as well. Works perfectly since then.

Don’t have a QJ set up but used hydraulic cylinders on Injection molds for ejection on parts for about 18 years. When I could not get the connections together, I would put a rag over the end where the tip pushes in and push it against something hard to let the pressure release just a bit and if it was too much for that I would take a ball pein hammer and tap the tip a couple times to let the pressure off! Some times a little tap and there’s so much pressure it would make a misty cloud, hence the rag over the fitting.
Not sure if that’s helpful but that’s what I did for years.

If you do a good job of purging all of the air from the system (which you should), the consequences of this are hydraulic-lock is keeping you from disconnecting the QDs.

As mentioned above a couple of times, holding the button down after lowering the rails to reduce any residual pressure helps a lot, I have this happen nearly every time I get in a hurry, going back and pressing the button for 5-10 seconds always fixes it.

Again, the problem is not disconnecting, the problem is connecting. I think there is pressure in the lines before attempting a connection and it requires a very high force to get them to engage. I believe the damage was done during the difficult connection.

Yeah, I need to try something like that. Next time it happens I'll give it a try, easier than unscrewing the pipe threads to bleed it.

I disconnect mine in the "middle" I guess you could say - not at the pump and not at the frame cylinders. I have had 2 QJ units, and know what you are saying about being a little tough to push connect sometimes. Can't offer much other than I always hold on the down button for a few seconds after frames have fully retracted. That "should" relieve pressure I would think. But even doing that, mine are also tough sometimes - I just deal with it.
