It is but it wears you out!
Last week I worked five 12s and two 10s, so 80 hrs total and they took 43% of my check in various taxes!!! It’s complete bullshit!
This is the best explanation of our wages and the 2-tier system automakers have used since 2007
So if you’ve started in the last 16 years you get very watered down wages and benefits that were supposed to come back up to be on par with legacy workers but never did and companies have gotten away with it because of crappy UAW representation! We are tired of it and got ourselves some new leadership!

Read this quick article and it explains the situation
https://stocks.apple.com/Aqiam3FM3TwuTlDI787fXYQ
I feel for you, working 80 hours, is very rough! When I was young, 12hrs /7 days, with overtime, my azz was dragging and very little time for fun... I hope things workout and everyone finds a happy medium. I have always turned down overtime, since then, except in emergencies, I would never put a hurt on my employer.

Frustrating because I’ve tried to change my tax rate but work won’t let me because the IRS sent them a letter stating what I have to claim after I owed two years in a row!! That’s some bullshiat! I paid my taxes by the filing dates each year I owed but for some reason they have a hard on and won’t let me change it so I can keep MY money! Yes I get very large returns in the spring but I should be getting it every week in my check!

Could be a protracted strike, demands are insane IMO !!
40% pay bump over 4 yrs
temp & subs get same pay as FT
no step pay based on YOS (i.e. socialist, everyone gets paid the same)
more paid time off

If even 1/2 of that gets implemented expect a HUGE jump in the already stratospheric new car prices we're seeing !!
IMO, will bite the unions in the ass - there will be a slump in sales, layoffs and huge incentive to take plant automation to the next level & bring in AI/robotics.
Really? You don’t have any idea what is really going on. Look into all the facts not just what the news is reporting!! We are down 20% just due to inflation the last four years! I only make $4/hr more than I did 10 years ago! Fuckin McDonald’s employees make more than $4/hr more than they did 10 years ago! What is being asked for is just enough to make up for the last decade or so of inflation so that we have the same buying power we did back then,
Yes temps and subs should make the same as FT because most of them have anywhere from 4-16 years of service and are STILL temps and none of that time counts towards company seniority if they ever get hired FT!! That’s not socialism that’s bullshit!
The extra time off is because unless you have 15-20 years or more you only get three weeks total (80hrs vacation and 40 paa hrs) which the company screws you out of two weeks each year by forcing you to take 40 hrs during summer summer shut down and 40 hrs during winter shut down that the company schedules and you have no control over! On top of that the normal work schedule for production is a 10.5hr shift 6 days a week every week!!

Companies used the 2008 debacle to screw the workers and have been tightening the screws every contract since and we’ve had enough!!
Know the facts before you start stating how evil and what a bunch of greedy bastards we are! I’m personally getting tired of hearing how greedy we are! You don’t know unless you’re involved in it!

Actually I grew up in the Detroit area and worked for both GM & Chrysler (and various auto industry suppliers) in many different roles, so I do have a pretty good idea what's going on.

Temps & subs in any industry are not treated like FT nor do their 'service hours' count toward seniority if they flip to FT - so no sympathy there. And for the record, yes I've worked for years in some places as temp and flipped knowing full well I was starting from 'zero'.

A lot of ppl (myself included) have been shit-hammered by inflation, the woo-flu etc. and our wages have not kept pace, the UAW is not unique in that respect.

When I worked for the auto co's (even as a 1099) I looked forward to those weeks off & even continued to take them when I was working in non-auto industries.

My last FT job I got 3 weeks off and 12 holidays + 4 sick days, most US corps are stingy with time off - is what it is. Worked as 1099 for much of my career, so I could take off as much time as I could 'afford' to !

As for everyone being paid the same regardless of YOS, well that's just straight up socialist IMO !

Then you should understand that getting screwed for the last few contracts and the whole purpose of a union is to bargain the best contract they can for the employees while the company tries to get the lowest cost they can! Where just trying to force the companies to give us the best deal we can get!
Our problem boils down to the last few contracts we were sold out by the union leadership! Companies took complete advantage of the sellouts and that is why we elected new leadership this last election and he’s doing his damndest to get us something better than the last couple contracts. Everyone know that you always start out high and negotiate down while forcing them to come up.
I don’t agree with people being stuck in temp status for over a decade! If they’re hood enough to keep around then they’re hood enough to hire. When hired FT they still have to go through the pay progression to get to full wage. Which right now is 8 years but so much can change from one contract yo the next that keeps getting extended even for the same newer FT employees. You really want a job where you don’t ever see a goal or the carrot at the end? There needs to be a goal line that everyone can shoot for.
Used to hire in and reach full wage after 90 days and that never happens anymore. You’re lucky to get some stability in FT employment after 3-6 years of temp service, if you’re very lucky.
I’m fortunate because I’m trades and trades start at trade wages but our benefits are the lesser quality that the in progression employees get. So we’re a weird cross breed employee that kind of gets a mis match of benefits,

I ve never been a union guy
All the union shops in my field died 30 years ago because they could not compete with other countries doing the same job but with worse quality
All our experience & success was sold out to China piece by piece
Its a kick in the nuts to loose work to low quality competition due to lower wages

Across our trade we also have large wage variations based on skill level
The ONLY way to survive is to keep hiring younger lower wage workers
As wages increase you slowly tighten the increases & weed out what you can t afford
Its a cycle
We don t get Government support so we have to survive on our own
We also don t have lifetime pensions & medical coverage after we retire
The day you retire your benefits are done
My father in law has been retired 22 years from Chrysler & to this day has better benefits then I do
I m not sure the current status of all these legacy cost ???
They had a big influence on the 2008 financial mess

In 2008 the Government ( peoples tax dollars ) bailed out the auto industry which left a stale taste in people mouths
Today the Government is handing out billions & billions of dollars ( our tax money ) to get this EV BS rolling

I have no issues with good wages
My issue is they seem to come off the backs of tax payers not the auto manufacturer

If I was at the big 3 which is no longer the big 3
I d shoot for the moon myself
Especially when you see CEO s making 20 to 30 million a year
I don t know anyone that don t want to make more money
But I don t feel bad for them
Most are envious to be honest

Here is a good article from the last contract

Yup I get it. I don’t understand the forever benefits and I’m k with not getting them myself but what I’m not ok with is you have retirees that make more retired than you do young people working 60+ hrs a week.

The whole Mexico China thing I’ve bitched about gif decades. First moved jobs yo Mexico because they were cheap then they wanted more money. They move the jobs to China because Mexico was too expensive and the cycle continues! Only problem is you can’t compete with socialism snd people in China being paid penny’s per hour!!

So what do we know (if anything)..on how this will impact production on the 170...I hesitate to call my dealer..(they are great people)..they don't know much past what time of day it is..
UAW is doing their selective strike against soft targets. I think they are broke and can't afford for everyone to strike. If they wanted to send a message, they would go after the parts and casting plants.

As far as the Demon 170. I don't see Unifor pissing off Stellantis because Stellantis could easily pull production out of Canada and send it to Mexico. Unifor could take down the Stellantis Etobicoke plant and shut everyone down since they make a lot of engine castings for a lot of vehicles in Stellantis. Gut feeling is Unifor won't strike Stellantis, they'll strike Ford, both sides compromise and then get a similar contract from GM and Stellantis. I'm still of the mindset Unifor will stab the UAW in the back to get more product moved to Canada

I've been watching all the UAW livestreams and the UAW president was lamenting they were solidarity with Unifor. Then over the weeks, he never mentions Unifor or Biden again... I think UAW F'd and I wouldn't be surprised if some illegals start to be bused to Detroit and magically get work visas...

The Jeep plant is not a soft target for Stellantis, it’s their highest profit margin vehicle made in the United States!
The Ford and GM targets I do not know about.
