Back in the 80’s I lived in the Chi burbs. Driving home after a Cubs game, and a cocktail at a local establishment, I was on the Eisenhower going home at about 2am. A crappy car with 4 city guys passed me on the right at high speed and pulled in front me and jammed on the brakes! No time or distance to stop I swerved into the lane to the right to avoid collision. Luckly the lane was empty, probably because the guy used it for the high speed pass.

A while after, newspapers reported the accident scam where locals would fill a car, get rear-ended, go to corrupt Dr’s and make huge insu claims, which were almost always paid. Decade later there was a TV episode about this, I think Law and Order.

Someone was looking over me that night.

I'd heard of that tactic. Hadn't seen the back into you trick before.

I’ve had two separate incidents where this was tried on me while driving on the busy highway by Toledo, Ohio.
I do have front and rear facing cameras in my daily driver Ram 1500 for this very reason. I have been using them ever since I was rear ended heading home from work and coming into a small town in 2016 (same truck) The speed limit dropped to 35 from 60 and young girl never slowed down. This was at 11:30pm and tore her car up bad but didn’t do much to my truck except bend the bumper.

3 of my 4 vehicles have them, AND they are two-channel cams so I've got front and rear facing cameras.

This does makes me want to get one into the last of my vehicles.

Our daily drivers have both front and rear cams. Neither of my fun cars have them though.

Bull are your 2 channel units with two separate cameras or one unit with front and cabin views ?

Looking for recommendations ... just need front and some rear view (maybe cabin is good enough and also catches some side views?). Want parking mode / motion sensing for sure. No GPS or cloud necessary, just a good res video source (1080 ok don't need Starvis) that I can pull the SD card if needed.

This one looks interesting .... about $200 bundled with the unit, cable kit and 256G SD card.

Interested in any experiences or recommendations ... thanks all.

I have various versions of the Blackvue 2ch cameras.

(A main head unit with a 2nd slave unit, it automatically records 2 streams from the two units, each independently viewable)

I'm not sure how much I do or don't recommend Blackvue as a whole. When they first came out, for me the appeal was the physical form factor. The performance was by comparison good relative to others, but still didn't, or also still doesn't live up to my expectations.

This is a fun link to my first Blackvue (Hellcat)

My second Blackvue (Power Wagon)

I won’t drive my truck without one(or 2).
Had that woman been armed, wonder if she could have defended herself against the people trying to kill her.

I've seen this discussion elsewhere by lawyers, and there does exist a double standard in the law where LEOs can shoot you in a vehicle being used in this fashion, but civilians can NOT defend themselves in the same way...

BTW, Blackvue does have non-cloud based versions that don't require subscription based access

I would imagine that it depends on state and actual situation. If someone is actively trying to run you over with a vehicle, I say you could probably shoot them. If they back into you and get out to "survey" the damage they intentionally caused, not so much, unless they're carrying an actual weapon!

I would imagine that could vary depending on state law... and jurisdiction

I'd heard of that tactic. Hadn't seen the back into you trick before.
Far from new..

My first motorcycle was a 2-stroke, and of course I tinkered with it all the time. Just like I always wound my way to the front at stoplights. And then took off at the highest possible speed when the light turned green.

Well, this particular time I had lowered the idle, so when I put in gear (knowing the light was about to change) it barely stayed running. Light turns and off I go...into the VW behind me. Surprised me more than the driver.

He claimed he hadn't moved, which most likely was true, but I countered with that my bike didn't have Reverse. Got paid for my slightly bent rear fender and off I went. Later that day I did learn that 2-strokes can change rotation under just the right (wrong?) circumstances.

That is true...2 strokes were noisy..smelly...but a ton of fun...had a 500cc Kawasaki 2 stroke for a couple of years back in the day...light and remarkably fast...till I melted pistons down to the wrist pins :p:p:p

Noisy, yes by choice, but smelly???

Sure didn't smell bad the time I ran out of gas and ended up having to use olive oil as a 2-stroke mix.
And there was some normal 2-stroke oil that also smelled very good.
