I had Goodyear Eagle GT's with my Cragar S/S's on my 71' Dart. 1987. 😂 I was 18 and knew nothing about tires, but they looked cool. 😎

In my club we are limited to a 200 tread wear rating if I want to stay in my class; and a huge reclassification happens with spec racing tires. The factory P Zeros summer tires are a 280 TWR so that is a good baseline to see how well they perform before considering replacements. I can go up to a 325mm (20mm over stock) without penalty. But, I am more keen on mounted section width, weight and getting as close to 200 TWR as possible.

Also, autocross is run rain or shine... so water shedding is paramount (especially if the weather changes on a whim).
200 UTQG is the rule for any SCCA competition in "Stock" classes. Many manufacturers have restamped previous UTQG rating to meet the 200 rule. Yokohama A052 was the dominate tire at the 2019 SCCA Nationals. The Challenger is a big heavy car to throw around and getting the power to the ground is difficult with any tire. Temperature will play a major role in any "summer" tire performance from any brand, mine fall off below 40 deg. and traction fades away.

I hear you. But, I am very accustomed to racing a big boned car. I'd have to check my club's rules but they do have a tendency to identify and penalize the opportunists who seek an advantage outside the rules (especially when it is the OEMs graying the lines). Looking at the A052s there is a very low likelihood I would consider those tires for daily use and the occassional fun autocross use (I didn't buy a race car, I bought a car I could race) - especially considering I have to drive 50+kms and back (100kms total) to the venue and they look like the water shedding properties are going to go away pretty quickly. But, that is just conjecture from an anecodotal eyeball.

Indeed. But, if they come out with a 325/30 or 35R20 you may see a set on my car next year. ;)

You can try the nitto NT05R as well. Not as good but will last a little longer.

Simple street tires suck and do not work on these cars.

Don’t forget BF Goodrich Radial t/a. Almost every muscle car back in the day ran those. Way more than these.
I disagree, at least in my area (early 70's to early 80's). We saw those BFG's on cars like Corvettes and maybe some custom vans, but the people who had serious power in their cars all ran bias ply tires and mostly all of them ran Pos-A-Traction torque twisters or a grooved slick. And no one who wanted serious traction ran radial tires back then, again, at least in my area. If we saw a car with radials on it, you knew they were going to spin like crazy.
We even had more people using McCreary asphalt tires vs. BFG T/A's. Probably because we had a McCreary tire plant right in town.

So I did a little digging on the club rules today. Long story short, if I get as close to 200 UTQG without hitting it and move up to a 315mm tire I take no points, over-200 UTQG and move to a 325mm tire and take 2 points and stay in the lowest class, or over-200 UTQG and use a 345mm tire for 3 points and move up a class. After that all bets are off and I might as well put the car on slicks. I plan on taking full advantage of the free 10% weight reduction (that's like 450lbs - LMFAO).

47) For each event, the fastest competitor using street tires will recognized as “Fastest on Streets”.
48) “Street Tires” are defined as all non-R-compound tires and, as such, include “Cheater Tires”.


So, evidently spec tires that are above 200 UTQG are good-to-go.

It's interesting to note that there is not a universal treadwear standard across all tire manufacturers, they all have a different scale. So a 200 Michelin does not equal a 200 Continental...etc.

The same way there is no uniformity to all of the physical dimensions. There is a huge benefit to doing some research and finding the truth - especially if you are seeking a tactical advantage.

I liked the old N50 Super Cats on my RR, I was able to go way down on pressure when street racing, and had no wobble at hi speeds. Seems they would gain pressure after a good burnout,(about 2-3psi) and grab like crazy, had the front wheels up barely skimming the 1st 60' or so...for a 3500lb+ car with a big block, was impressive.Oh, and they were bias ply!
