Hey Colby…. Some things that I was planning to chat with you about but if I ask the questions here maybe someone will learn a little about doing stuff at this level. Your block has been a full fill. I assume you’re still pumping water thru the heads. What pump are you using and how’s that working as far as temps go with the methanol? Going to the Dart.. I assume you are not going to do any filling with that block. Going to use the same pump and radiator? I also assume you guy have had a good look at the Dart. What do you think and any thoughts on Callis Hellephant vs that? Congrats on the accomplishment. Your team has their shit together for sure. 👍🏼

Hey Marc,
Going to methanol changes the game. We do not worry about IAT temps anymore. Methanol loves heat and burns better with hot air. But you will need 720 lbs FuelTech injectors and a Aeromotive 25 gpm crank driven fuel pump. That means building a gas tank in the front bumper :)

Don't use water because of the increased risk of lifting heads and water vapor locking cylinders. We're racing these cars not trying to split time daily driving or reconfiguring the car for Sick Week. The events like Streetcar Braggin Rights (Heavy Weight) and other Heavy weight events don't care about water. They want to see big heavy cars running amazing numbers and competing.

As far as the Dart block...holy cow...I have not seen anyone besides the aluminum blocks say they can make 3,300 horsepower like Dart can and it's a cast-iron block. Plus if we went with an aluminum block, it would exclude us from some events like All Steel All Glass or throw crazy weights on the car.

Marc,
Jake Sampson and the Dart engineers are discussing if we will or won't fill the block.

That is one of the questions we were wondering. That’s a considerably heavier block and with the 1/2” studs might be safe to run the coolant. Did Dart say 3300? Damn 😳

I was on the fence buying the dart block but it just seems so dam heavy. Why not the TKM block or is that because it will limit ur class racing?

Yes they did and that's why we choose them

The Demon TKM blocks are just the BGE stock block like we have now.

If you're referring to the Noonan aluminum blocks that Demon & Noonan partnered on....oh no, the price compared to a Dart block (6k compared to 17k...not worth it) and then aluminum blocks are not allowed in some classes

I was referring to the cast aluminum Hellephant block being made by Callies now. I was talking to Geoff Turk at Blackbird and he recommended those. About 100 lighter than the Dart. I had no idea that Dart was saying 3000+ hp

I just hung up with Callies. Here are the data points to make decisions:

1. Power: cast aluminum blocks are not as strong as cast iron blocks. Thus the Dart block is superior for maximum power.
2. Weight: Callies block is 100 lbs lighter then Dart. Thus Callies gets it on weight.
2. Cost: Dart is $6k and Callies is $10k. Thus Dart gets it on price.
3. Timeline: Both companies are 8 weeks out on new orders - so equal there.

Summary: Dart blocks wins it for me. More power, more reliability and cheaper. Plus the front end of our car keeps lifting and +100 lbs would help balancing the overall car.
