New England Dragway opens Wed April 2, the DA forecast is incredible, -1500'! But we're looking at 43deg.

Does anyone have experience running MT ET Street R's in cold weather?

I'm thinking about the $175 track rental but if there is no chance of getting really good runs I don't want to waste my time and money.

Does anyone know if the MT's will stick enough to take advantage of the DA? I called MT and they said to give the tires a little extra warm-up, but would not say if there would be significant loss of traction.

I need to know now as I need to prep the car Tues April 1. Thanks!

Pavement and ground temps may be too cold also. What has the weather been doing? Sun shining strong on it for a week, or cloudy and cool? The early fall is better, some “mine air” like that while the ground and roads are still warm.

Water is the BEST especially when it’s starting to rain and it’s starting to pool up.

45 is a bit cool but that’s relative track temp will always be hotter than actual temp. If you have a bright sunny day should be warm enough

I’d give it a shot with -DA like that. Healthy burnouts & let it rip.

The Temp of the Track is more important and that it has enough cars going down to keep it 50 degrees and above.

I have raced during the day using MT ET r's when the outside temp was 45. But there were alot of cars and the Sun was out.

But back in the day, as the sun went away and the night came, the track was not staying 50 and above. 1st an Old race car launched and broke. Then (No Diff brace,) then my husband launched his Top Cat Hellcat, the diff broke and his CF driveshaft came out the back like spaghetti. I was up next, launched, broke my diff and it took out my AL driveshaft and a halfshaft..

Think about that it is a track rental, and will there be enough cars going down to keep the track warm. Bring a heat gun.

Thanks. How does the temp cause this kind of damage?

Lack of traction. Put your foot down on 95 at 60 MPH in 30 degree weather and even stock you'll do a rolling burnout. Unanticipated burnouts turn into loss of control.

The tire composition actually gets less elastic and more like plastic in cold temps. Generally, it is not recommended to drive them in temps 45 or less. Here’s something I found on the internet
Be warned: because the rubber compound on the drag radials is very sensitive to temperature changes, it's a double-edged sword. You'll enjoy better straight line traction when the air temps are above 60 degrees (F.). But if you decide to drive your car on a cold morning or a cold night, and the air temps are below 50 degrees, you'll find that the drag radials have worse traction than standard radial tires do. If you drive in 40 or 45 degree weather, even with the pavement dry, you step on the gas going into a turn, and find that they spin as though it was raining out.

Nope, I was in the beginning stages of R&D and T&T and still in the 10's.
As explained about the the tires the rubber compound is not as elastic, do a burnout, they cool fast while setting up, then launching they don't roll out right and they shock the rear. Think of the shock you would feel if someone threw a snowball down your backside :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: not going anywhere!;)
