So far we have established that NJ is a bad place to live (some dark forces there), that I am in a hole (although why I am in the hole remains a mystery), some therapy has been performed regarding a young guy that is looking in the mirror and looks angry (well that is what I see, lol, although the poster cannot comment on it, even though they posted it), and a member is in grade school and has blocedk me (I almost fell of the chair reading that one).

All this over an EV thread which includes the term "subsidy". If this is reflective of society as a whole, we are in big trouble. This is worse than when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
HAHA!! You said Germans!!:ROFLMAO::LOL:

This was over a week ago...it was -46C at my place. A few areas had 30 min rotating blackouts....my place stayed up. I do have a Generlink transfer switch and a 9000watt generator for backup. EVs don't function at these temps PERIOD.
How do you know that?

As per the attached link, this guy who is well known in the Tesla world states that he has charged his vehicles down to -35 F and that they are functional in Alaska. I haven't driven lower than 10 degrees so I don't have any experience

I drove around a fair bit for work during this cold snap....I know how many EVs I usually see and I saw NONE on the road. When you burn all your battery storage making heat, you don't get very far. I like the technology and speed, but I wouldn't have one in Canada anywhere...well, maybe Vancouver area where it rarely freezes.

Fair enough, if the range is greatly reduced, just take the ICE vehicle.

Someone on here criticized me recently when I said that a big drawback of EVs is that you shouldn't park them in attached garages. Ridiculous, they said.

Oh, and then there's this. Tesla is now implementing "surge pricing" when its Superchargers are busy.

If you watched the link, they died waiting to charge, the charge times are much greater if the BMS is not used (essentially a 5 KW battery heater- in the case of the Ioniq5).

The Tesla guy "out of spec" did a video of charging a tesla in real cold weather that was sitting for a couple of days, the first 45 minutes of the charge did nothing than heat the battery up (the charge did not start until after 45 minutes)

Fair enough, if the range is greatly reduced, just take the ICE vehicle.
So, the electric car is part time transportation. Is an ICE auto included in the price of an electric car? Better yet, buy an ICE auto and be ready for all types of weather...

Not facts, just statements based on ancedotal observations. I am good with it but there any many videos of the cars being used at very cold weather. If the range is greatly reduced why bother, just take the ICE.

In my case the range reduction is an annoyance but the band plays on

You have a choice. Stay home and use your toaster oven or starve and go to work...
I would charge the car then plug the toaster oven into the car and heat up my Hot Pockets on the way to work.

In my ICE vehicles, fill-up time in 5 minutes and I'm on my way, in cold or hot weather. This is a wonderful idea, should we purchase ICE vehicles and avoid freezing to death? In Florida, the temperatures have reached below 32 degrees, no electric car for me...
