We actually got that from Whipple but that was some time ago. They don’t market it anymore and I couldn’t find it anywhere else. It stopped working on mine and he said we are not going to replace with another one. Just go without (race car 🙃). I’ll be at the shop today and have a talk about the whole IAC thing and find out what the deal is with that one. Btw…. The picture with it on the engine is misleading. I was in the process of removing it after placing the turbo intake and discovered I couldn’t get at the harness connection under the intake. It was just laying there 😂 It never was actually in that spot.
You are 200% correct. I’m drive by cable and can adjust idle by the set screws on the throttle body. Now the million dollar question do I mount my cable like the blue car or like a Drag Pak 😂

I’m enjoying fumanchu’s build so much I feel the need to update mine 😎. So what’s going on. Two things actually. One in front and the other in the rear. To recap…. The turbos are being placed with custom plumbing. That’s the easy part compared to the rear. I took the car to Redeye Racecars in Vero Beach for the turbos. That was going to be a straightforward deal that would get it done quicker than waiting on Adam to recover and the two of us doing it. James Golden made the offer to help and I took him up on that and made the trip to Florida. Once on the rack a discussion on the rear suspension started. The current 2015 DragPak 4-link in the car is designed to work in a way that is not good for a 2500hp turbo as it is designed to transfer weight by lifting the front. That’s a whole story in itself. Anyway….. the decision to change it was made and that will be more time consuming. Here’s a look at what’s going on with that….. The suspension will be what is called anti-squat. It will need to be much lower in the rear and that will require the tires to be inside the wells instead of sticking out the way they all do. Due to the limited space inside the rear wells, to make that happen, the frame rails are “notched”. That is in the area where we all beat a little to get those 315’s to fit. This takes that to another level, allowing the wheels to be moved in 3” on each side. That will narrow the wheel base by about 6” total and bring those tires inside the fenders. Now comes the lowering part. To do that, the inner fender well has to be opened up where the top of the factory shocks attach. One of the classes I want to run does not allow what is called a “back half”. That is where the frame rails are replaced and fender wells are tubbed to make room for big tires. To run the coil overs in their new position is going to require a completely new tubing structure to be built that will also support the fuel cell and the rest of the stuff in the rear. While hanging turbos and fabricating the necessary stuff for doing that is something we could have certainly done at home…. This is not. It’s going to be a interesting (entertaining) experience to watch this being done. IMG_6433.jpeg IMG_7222.jpeg IMG_7225.jpeg IMG_7258.jpeg IMG_7257.jpeg IMG_7193.jpeg

So will you still be able to run that class you like? I’m not understanding what you’re doing vs what’s outlawed.

The class thing is frustrating. We’re at a disadvantage to start due to the weight. I read all the different rules for the different classes that I might choose to compete in. Some of them don’t allow rear tubs. Some require factory frame rails (notching ok). Some require factory steel doors with factory roll up glass windows but allow 5000hp Pro Mod engines. It’s fking nuts 😐

That’s why I never bothered. They change the rules, you pull out your checkbook or you can’t play. Write more checks or you’re not competitive. Can’t just build a fast car anymore.

As the tubular structure to support the rear suspension starts to be fabricated, mounting for the fuel cell and system needs to be designed in. That includes the pump. It needs a solid platform and proper placement because it’s gravity fed. There also needs to be a filter to protect the injectors. While I will still be running ethanol for the near future, this system needs to be properly sized for the move to methanol in the future. That will require twice the volume. So…. This setup is being built beyond what is currently needed. Thats so I’m not looking at replacing everything and starting over when the time comes. I made the decision to stay with Aeromotive. Their TVS (true variable speed) pumps are a wonder. The biggest 12v brushless gear drive unit is 10.0 gpm. That will support 3400 hp on ethanol in a forced induction engine. This is basically the same as the 7.0 gpm system I’ve been using except bigger. Not just the pump. Everything. I sold that complete 7.0 system to someone here. You might be able to guess who 😆. This one will have -16 feed from the tank to the pump. From there forward and back is all -12. The fuel rails on that manifold from LME are -12. The Aeromotive tech people are so knowledgeable that there isn’t any question about whether what you’re getting will do the job. When the time comes…. a second 10.0 pump, run in series will provide the volume required to work with the rest of this system. I’ve had discussions about the need to go with a mechanical system for methanol. No room for a front tank and belt driven pump so a hex drive cable was the option. Those have recently been shown to have issues of their own so that became questionable. After talking with Aeromotive (they also make mechanical pumps), they convinced me that for my car, the dual electric pump option was the way to go. IMG_6513.jpeg IMG_6510.jpeg IMG_6511.jpeg

Got the rears placed where they want them to set the width of the axle housing. To do this with the 315’s, a serious notching of the frame and wheel well modifications are necessary. But… no tubs. I’ve always hated the La Bomba wheels sticking out look. Clean, low and tight 👊 IMG_0585.jpeg IMG_0582.jpeg IMG_0586.jpeg

Getting these things ready for the new motor. Cornerstone Billet. I know there were some issues to start with rocker hold down bolts not having room. We will address that. Full machine shop capability at Spankintime now so no problems with stuff like that. I did talk to him about it and they are addressing the issue in their CNC. Spankintime is a dealer now so….. 🤗. Price was right for me. Got the special shiny black powder coat so I think they’ll look good with my red MSD coil packs. IMG_6525.jpeg IMG_6527.jpeg IMG_6526.jpeg IMG_6528.jpeg

Back on track after a two month hold. A seriously broken arm brought the fabricating talent at Redeye Racecars to a screeching halt. The tig fired up again this week and we’re moving forward again 🤗. More to come IMG_6806.jpeg IMG_6809.jpeg IMG_6804.jpeg IMG_6811.jpeg

Took a little trip out to sunny Florida to marvel at the stuff going on at Redeye Racecars. Damn! Took some snapshots of the fabricated rear end that is sitting up under mine now. It’s getting there 😎 IMG_6925.jpeg IMG_6924.jpeg IMG_6923.jpeg IMG_6922.jpeg IMG_6919.jpeg IMG_6920.jpeg IMG_6921.jpeg IMG_6916.jpeg IMG_6915.jpeg IMG_6927.jpeg

Location and ride hight is set. The hard part is done and it’s ready for shocks and axles. Still need the tubing to place the fuel cell, battery and catch can but that’s the easy part compared to what has been done to this point.
