I did call, and it's still waiting for parts, apparently. As you pointed out, it can't be cause they're selling so many of them.
It's more likely, I think, that they're working on solving some defect, but I haven't heard about anything along those lines.
Anyway, I was positively surprised when averaging almost 17 mpg over two fill-ups with mine when going to Utah. That's obviously with meaningful elevation changes, plus my normal 75-85 mph cruising speed and much full throttle passing.
