I was just about to post here on that very subject . On a stock or near stock combination the results will be a lot different . In my opinion there is a "point" the stock air box will run out of volume . Look at the demon FCA even said in their articles they tested different intakes/hoods to get more fresh air / volume into the engine . That "point" will be different for every car though . I have a completely different "out side the box" setup on my car . A CAI is a great supporting mod in my opinion. If you are expecting a huge gains then a CAI is not for you . I have nothing to gain by fudging the results or lying( only looking like a fool) . I am not bias towards any manufacturer either . I bought both intakes used from forum members . The funny part is I don't care about the "sound" I just want the most functional one for my car.

and I agree 100% with all you said here.. if we are talking supporting mods and more boost, more power etc modded car.. absolutely then I think aftermarket intake could be beneficial. I was laughing at the picture you had "Cold Member" :D on the airbox that's awesome. Neat idea to wrap the airbox like you did (y). My comments like I said were more directed at an otherwise stock car with little to no modifications.

My only concern with the mod is with blocking off the bottom opening. It appears to have more area than the new 3" duct. I wouldn't want to trade off volume, either.

No rain shield? Or never had an issue without it?

I just put the Afe on & it's not a DD & with all the rain lately I haven't had it out much. But I did get a JLT block off hood vent shield so I'll see how that does with & without it at the track , & the Afe comes with a pull over prefilter to deflect some water but I hope I don't have to find out.

So is there any consensus on which CAI I should order? I am not concerned about HP gain, obviously I don't want to lose any. I just want to hear the supercharger more. Also, I'd rather not have intake temps spike either.

I don't think there is a consensus. LMI & JLT seem to be the loudest but any aftermarket intake will be louder than stock.

I think it comes down to looks and wait (LMI takes about 4-5 weeks since they are made per order). I am a fan of the huge CF intake tube. Knew it was the intake I wanted before I even had the car lol.

I run the LMI without their metal shield but do have the JLT vent plate incase I get caught in rain.

So is there any consensus on which CAI I should order? I am not concerned about HP gain, obviously I don't want to lose any. I just want to hear the supercharger more. Also, I'd rather not have intake temps spike either.

For me, coming from an LMI Airhammer, on my 6.1 SRT Charger, the choice was obvious. It was about sound and looks, and having one before, it just made sense to find one for my HC Charger.

Not only that... Chris makes his CF intakes by hand. They're not some plastic tube squeezed out of a Play-Doh fun factory, in mass quantities. I like supporting craftsmanship, when I can.

There's no right answer, here. You need to decide why you want to move on from the factory intake and find one that matches that criteria. That's the bottom line :)

Did wrapping the box make any difference in IAT?

Stock with thermal barrier but will be testing LMI and JLT soon
