Mine started acting crazy and then went black. Replaced the unit.

Hicky! I wonder sometimes. It seems something is going sour all the time these days.

If you are the original owner, they should replace it for free even if the warranty has expired. If they balk, press it with Dodge !!

A weak battery cell can cause voltage to randomly drop which can cause the electronics to go bat-sh!t crazy. Just hooking up a volt meter is probably insufficient to catch it.
Take it to an Interstate Battery store and have them test it (it's free). Their test is a bit more comprehensive than the free tests most auto stores do.

Mine is also a 2017. When my battery gets low from sitting after I jump start it I normally have zero volume control on the radio, and the screen gets weird and shows a Chrysler logo, and only very basic items, nothing like normal. After a full charge I disconnect the battery ground for a bit and turn on the headlights to discharge voltage from the unit capacitors. First start it quickly runs thru a bunch of weird startup menus and things, then start #2 and I am back to normal. These cars are more voltage sensitive than a damn Tesla! Battery tender makes life much easier for a very rarely driven garage queen like mine.

Also the 2017 cars were very delayed in production due to Panasonic being behind for whatever reason on the screen units. As a result there were fewer 2017 Hellcats built than Demons the next year--- yay, we have a rare car haha. I had read in the past that the screen units were not truly ready for production, but pushed thru anyway which is why some 2017 cars have weird screen issues that other years do not.

Went for a short drive today. Checked the battery voltage at the battery before starting the engine, it showed 12 volts, opened the door and the lights all came on and it held 12 volts. But on the drive, it is still changing radio channels and the drive modes change on their own also. every minute or so it will change from track to default to custom and back to default. This seems like a safety issue as well.

I'm beginning to prefer a car with a carburetor with manual everything. I don't believe we will be able to keep these things going after they get some age on them, and the support dries up. They will be like all the other electronic junk Disposable!

I pray that the aftermarket will keep us going!

Get the battery load tested.

12volts is certainly low, but not dead (~11.7 is pretty dead)

What was the voltage on the dash while you were driving around?

If you do determine it’s your LCD screen delaminating, and not whole unit issue, then I have a rather extensive write of of how to replace and what part number you need. The whole replacement should take you under an hour…if you’re slow. The most meticulous part is removing the interior trim. I forget exactly, but the LCD screen replacement part was ~$500; not sure now with inflation.

I’m part of the 2017 club; I had notable delamination issues, but no ghosting controls. I made sure to replace it as soon as I noticed it.

Still wouldn’t rule out a battery issue…even with good voltage, weird shit can happen in these cars when the battery is on its way out.

I vaguely recall that now that you mention it, linkage to the thread?

With this thing randomly changing drive modes while I drive. what if any problems might this cause on my 15 mile drive to the dealership. Could it cause a shut down?
