Is that 3 miles in that pic ?... it doesn't look like it, and I bet at close to 200 mph, it doesn't seem that long ether.

It is, part of the reason it looks "short" is that it is so freaking wide compared to a normal runway.

I've been told by a guy that runs out at the Salt Flats, cars only last a few short years because of the sand blasting and corrosive affects of the salt.

Oh, should have probably mentioned that the BBORR is ~60 miles, about ten of them straight and with 59 turns in the last 50 miles of the course (and you run both directions) so this is not ideally about going for flat out top speed. The course record for average speed is around 172 if I remember and this year top (race one) the top average was 153.111 with the highest official speed reading at 202.6 (run on the south bound leg). I was tickled because the "official results" included a typo of 1110.0 mph.

Not unless it's a purpose built car for there, which is what most people do.

The flats are a lot harder to drive on than they look to be. Bumpy and easy to get out of control. A world unto itself.

After that big yearly event out there, the surface was nice and smooth for miles like concrete. Tried to do a salty donut and the tires barked & smoked like on pavement.
