It’s a sorry outlook for the west. That has been the only facility running a weekly schedule. More than one local shop and their customers relying on that to do what they do. Makes me want to move. Oh right! I am 🙄

Even my podunk town had this happen to our short track.

The owner didn't want to sell. Maybe she thought the kids would continue to run it. Nope.
She died and a few months later it was all sold. For a car wash, a strip mall, and an unnamed box store. All of which we have several of in the area.

So glad Byron Dragway held out for an owner/s that wanted to operate it.

That track is close by me and always loved it. That "feeling" of racing down hill.

When BJ put it for sale (and I believe Ron was still alive but maybe sold his share to BJ at that point), the forest preserve came in and offered him his asking price almost immediately.

He turned it down.
Took a few years. Even advertised it on an alcohol (maybe even nitro) funny car at Route 66 race one year.
Was finally able to find buyers.

Its hard to keep going with young kids in several activities but we make a point to at least go to one of their shows.
Went to wheel stand practice and their night of thunder.

Some day, I'll get another bracket car together. I'm probably 5-10 years away.

Yes. If you watch closely you can see him tapping his foot where he wants me to go. He was directing me because the track was on the verge of needing to be touched up. He told me he was going to re prep and then all of a sudden he was telling me to go for it. When the track was fresh you can see he was just sitting on the wall because he was letting me decide on my own. Ryan is TOP NOTCH and he WANTS to see records fall and he wants me to be successful. Extremely sad to see this all end and see him go............. Irwindale is closing down. Only other person I know that does this for me is TJ in Dallas.
