These new door bars were installed in preparation for the 7.5 cert cage. There were extensive mods done to my existing cage in order to not only give the support necessary for that DragPak install, but also meet some of the future requirements for upgrading the cage cert. It is still only certed for 8.5 now, but with some of the changes made, it will be a easy upgrade when the time comes. What you might notice here is how much lower the door bar is and it is bent in a way that allows easy out. This was actually copied from the new Dragpaks. They are allowing a lower bar because it makes getting out of one of these things less difficult in case the car is on fire. We went over the dimensions that the new DragPak cages with the NHRA tech who will be certing the new cage, and this bar design is something he’ll allow. It’s welded in (no more removable or swing-out allowed) but much easier to get over. What is called the “funny car hoop” will tie into this when that is added in the future.
