On the long drive home. Suspension is spectacular. Ran a shakedown pass off the trailer with 12 degrees of timing and just basically took a lazy drive down the track. 9.13 at 150. Files looked good so we put the race tune back and.... blew the trans in second gear. It was riding the bar thru 1st gear and felt good. Then.... no so much 😖

Thanks. This trans is basically a economy 400 that is priced the same as a new hp90 ($6k). It has the SFI case/bell housing and some nice stuff, but it was only “rated” at 1500hp. They build them for over 3000hp so this is the starter model. I knew that going in but this was a affordable way to go to begin with. It could be something simple. There’s no grinding or noise. Just no forward gear (1st, 2nd or 3rd. Reverse is ok). The first thing we’ll look at is the linkage. It could be as simple as that. If we confirm that there was a internal failure then Coan will inspect it and we’ll talk about the upgrades necessary to prevent it from happening again. This is the first thing I have ever broken in this car, but I’m sure it won’t be the last. The car is leaving so much harder now there is no comparison to before the suspension changes. That has to be a factor.

This was the off the trailer leave with the “safe” tune to get data. 12 degrees timing , 17 lbs in the tires, and no ice in the box. Lol. I didn’t even do a burn out. Just going to “drive it” down the track. Left at 1200rpm. The bars are going to be a big part of the tuning on this thing. It would have stood on the bumper if those bars didn’t intervene.

Check the lift that 4-link is providing. Look at the space above the rear wheels sitting at the line compared to launch. She comes up a full inch or more. That’s sixty foot right there!

sorry about the trans Marc. Your car is pushing so much power and everything is setup so well that if there is any weak link or or issue, your car will find it and exploit it. There is no duct tape any more, it’s either perfect or not.

you got this and you have a great team behind you to sort this out. Just race car problems never forget, it could be way worse!!

Yep! Had long conversations with the trans engineer and also the DragPak builder/designer this morning about suspension tuning and everything I have to learn about both. Let’s just say there are some necessary adjustments to me made. We’ll call this a hiccup 🤭
